Metronome

Eric Metronome has started a cover of the week page, where he posts, well, I guess it’s pretty self explanatory. Word on the Donewaiting block is that he takes requests. You should check it out: Eric Metronome

Eric is the lead singer/guitarist/songwriter for Tiara, a great indie rock band in town. They’re latest release, Chained to the Crown, I think is their best yet. However, they did manage to pet one of my peeves – the beginning of the track named ‘Chained to the Crown’ is a piano solo, but, they used a synth instead of a piano. Everytime I’m in the studio it with a keyboard player and a piano part comes up, there’s always a discussion about using the synth vs. a piano. Every, and I mean every, decent studio has a good piano in. Synth pianos sound like crap, and are fine for shows, but I’ve never found a reason to use a synth piano sound in the studio. Sorry guys, but the rest of the album is great. The Next Face is a track I’ve been waiting for from them for quite some time – everytime I’ve seen them in the past year or so they’ve played it, and everytime I rush home and go through all of my Tiara albums to find it, only to end up disappointed.

However much I like Tiara, I really love Eric Metronome, especially when Erik Kang is performing with him. Kang is also in Tiara, and plays guitar and lap steel. There’s just something in me that the combination of Eric’s frail voice and the sweetness of Kang’s steel melts a little everytime I hear them live...

Congrats to Eric, who just got signed to Sunken Treasure Records!

Thanks to Matt, I can make links now. Woohoo! I'm excited, if 10 years behind the curve...
